Empowering Justice with Expert Interpretation
In a significant stride towards advancing justice for women in Indonesia, the International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) and LBH APIK (Asosiasi Perempuan Indonesia untuk Keadilan) collaborated on a groundbreaking project titled "Bridging the Justice Gap: Empowering Human Rights Defenders to Advance Access Justice for Women." This initiative, generously supported by the European Union, aimed to enhance the trial advocacy skills of lawyers working in non-profit organizations providing free legal assistance to women victims seeking justice.
The project comprised five intensive training sessions conducted across different cities in Indonesia. These cities were carefully chosen to ensure a broad reach and impact, equipping a diverse group of lawyers with essential advocacy skills. The training sessions focused on developing the lawyers' ability to effectively represent and defend women victims in court, ensuring they receive the justice they deserve.
Leadership by a Legal Luminary
The training sessions were led by Michael G. Karnavas, a distinguished Senior International Defense Lawyer with nearly 35 years of experience in training lawyers on trial advocacy. His extensive knowledge and expertise provided invaluable insights and practical skills to the participants, enhancing their ability to navigate the complexities of legal proceedings and advocate effectively for their clients.
Bali Interpreting: The Heart of Communication
A crucial element of the project's success was the outstanding service provided by Bali Interpreting. Led by Ms. Ayu Puspita Dewi, the team of interpreters played a pivotal role in ensuring clear and effective communication throughout the training sessions. Their ability to seamlessly translate complex legal concepts and theories in real-time was instrumental in facilitating a smooth and productive learning experience for all participants.
Michael G. Karnavas, the main trainer, expressed his deep appreciation for Bali Interpreting's exceptional service, stating:
"With no script and no prior orientation on the subjects to be covered (or the technical language to be used), Ms. Ayu Puspita Dewi and her team tirelessly and enthusiastically interpreted with confidence, passion, and aplomb. I was humbled by their ability to simultaneously translate complex concepts and legal theories without missing a beat. Above all, their positive attitude, constant smile, and friendly disposition made working with them even more rewarding."
A Bright Future for Justice
The successful completion of this project marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to bridge the justice gap in Indonesia. The training provided to the lawyers not only enhanced their advocacy skills but also empowered them to continue their crucial work in defending women's rights and ensuring access to justice for all.
As we look to the future, the collaboration between IBJ, LBH APIK, and Bali Interpreting stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when dedicated organizations and individuals come together with a shared commitment to justice and human rights. The positive impact of this project will undoubtedly be felt for years to come, inspiring further efforts to empower human rights defenders and advance justice for women in Indonesia and beyond.
